Still working on the sleep situation. We have good days and bad days, good nights and bad nights. Good nights usually happen at home, when Kate goes to bed at her regular bedtime. Bad nights are whenever we're away from home these days, and the following couple nights too. But nothing worth doing is ever easy, and we will keep working at this until we are all getting an acceptable amount of sleep. It helps that she is so freakin' cute.

Weekend pics
The first 3 are from last weekend, when we went to the beach with Grammy and G-Pop and Aunt Anna.
Here's Piglet with her Grammy.
You gotta take a good sleeping picture from time to time.
The full moon over the ocean. (In case you couldn't tell what that was.)
The rest are from this weekend, when we went to visit Grandpa for his birthday (he is now officially in his 60th year!!)
Katy takes a break from playing with her Uncle Jarrod's shoe for a photo op.
Playing in the wrappings of Grandpa's presents.
Observing Earth Hour by watching the NCAA mens basketball tournament with the lights out! That little blur in the middle is Katy snuggled up to Uncle Jarrod. Mommy's on the left, Aunt Kristen on the right.

I'm back!
Okay, I know I said I needed a hiatus from blogging, but these pictures are so adorable I must share them.
This position is the bane of poor Katy's existance. She leans forward, gets one leg behind her, but that other leg stays in front and prevents her from crawling forward. It makes her SO mad!
Sleep deprivation apparently does not affect our little monkey.

This is what you get when you go in reverse and can't see where you're headed. You end up in places that you didn't intend to go.
And sometimes there are creepy monsters waiting for you in the dark. (Miss Jane)
Daddy, this guitar is a great teether. Thanks for letting me hold it!

System down for maintenance!
I have been (and will be) absent from blogging for a little while as we straighten out some sleep issues. We are trying some of the solutions in the No-Cry Sleep Solution to help Katy stay asleep at night and nap better during the day. The naptime stuff is taking a LOT of time out of my day, so I'm way behind on everything else. The good news is that she's already sleeping much better at night. I'll be back to blogging as soon as Katy starts napping better.
As I was putting laundry in the dryer, I thought it was strangely quiet in Katy's room. I stepped over to look in, and here's what I saw. Katy pulling clothes out of the laundry basket with one hand, and holding her microphone with the other.

8 months old, and Hillary!
Today Katy is 8 months old! Isn't she adorable?
Here are some pics of Katy and Miss Jane. Jane is totally in love with Katy, and wants to be near her at all times.

Yesterday, Zach called me from the car on his way to work to tell me that Hillary Clinton was coming to the college where I teach. So Katy and I cancelled our plans for the day and spent 3 hours at the college. 2 hours in line, and 1 hour standing about 20 feet from the senator as she rallied the crowd to all the causes that are near and dear to the liberal heart. I was impressed by how calm and kind Hillary was. If she means what she says (and she seems to), I'd love to see her in the White House. I'm hoping Barack comes around soon so I can see him too.
Katy stayed awake and happy the ENTIRE time we waited in line and listened to Hillary. Everyone loved Katy, especially the press. However, even though we were interviewed and had our picture taken many times, I can't seem to find our names or picture in any articles online today. Oh well.

Naps all around
If you look closely, you'll see three nappers. Minnie doesn't count, her eyes are embroidered open.

Sickie
I'm sure you'll all be shocked to hear that Katy got sick again. This time, though, it was pretty awful. Her coughing was so bad, and her breathing so strained that we took her to the emergency room Sunday before dawn. She has bronchiolitis, an upper respiratory infection probably caused by RSV (a mean icky virus). She is feeling much better now, but the pediatrician told us yesterday that we can expect her to be sick at least until the end of the week. Great.
In other news, Katy is now eating the following: rice cereal, bananas, avocado, sweet potatoes, and apples. She still nurses like a champ. Her favorite noises are "kuh," "guh," and "daa". She is still not mobile, but is really thinking hard about how she's going to get moving. She loves her teddy bear (Rupert) and The Okay Book, by Todd Parr. After two months of watching Sesame Street's Sing Yourself Silly video every single morning, I decided to switch it up with a different Sesame Street video. Katy was not impressed. She's a creature of habit, it seems. She enjoys her swim lessons with Daddy, and still loves her morning bath.
No new pictures today - sorry!
Edited to add: She has suddenly become mobile in the past 5 minutes! She has crawled ALL over the living room. BACKWARDS! And it's really frustrating her, because I think she's trying to go forward. :)

Katy's First Swim Lesson
Katy had her first swim lesson this morning. She's in a class with six or seven other babies. Here's the highlight reel. She looks a little intense in the video, but she seemed to enjoy it. The intructor has started calling her "water baby" already.
