So, this weekend we had our first bout of winter weather, replete with snow, freezing rain, and sleet. To avoid scraping ice off his car in the morning, Zach parked his Trooper in our barn-type garage for the first time last night. The garage has a big sliding wooden door opening onto the alley where we park, and a small regular door opening into our fenced-in yard. Can you see where this is going yet? Zach called me this morning to ask me to make sure that the small door was closed tightly before letting our greyhound Shelby out back. I went out there and couldn't find a really good way to get the door to stay shut in the wind (I'm not sure how it was secured previously), so I ran back in and got a pen to stick through the latch. Well, it apparently didn't hold. About 20 minutes after letting Shelby out, I get a call on my cell phone from a stranger who has picked Shelby up from Pennridge South Middle School, which is several blocks away. He was apparently in the road (wearing his little fleece coat!) and cars were swerving around him. This friendly man drove him home (saving his life, I'm sure) and here he is, relaxing on his bed after his little adventure.

The worst part of this whole thing is that for several days, he has been without his collar because he takes it off while he's outside. Luckily, Zach went out and got the collar the other day and put it back on him. What would have happened if he hadn't been wearing his collar???
Anyway, in other news, here is Katy propped up on the sofa next to her Daddy.

And Katy with her little tongue out. This is her latest trick.

And this is the wool soaker I made for Katy out of an old sweater that I got for free in a swap online. This picture does not do the color justice. It's a gorgeous lavender. I'll also be making her another soaker and some longies out of the same sweater.

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad Shelby is safe and sound! And, Katy is as cute as can be!
