A Visit from Aunt Anna (and Santa.. and the Stocking-Shrinking Fairy)

Aunt Anna came to visit this evening. We had tofu stir fry and played. Katy's stocking shrank to about one third of its previous size due to a prolonged felting process, but that's OK. Now her baby stocking is cute and small like she is. Later in the night Santa showed up on a fire truck at our front door! Katy spent some time with Daddy today and got her first taste of facing front in the Snugli.

Today was the first time that Katy sat up on her own for any length of time. Our little girl is growing up so fast (sniff).

Here are the 2 stockings I'm making. The sewn one still needs a cuff. The knit one needs to be felted. Time is getting short, Mommy! I'm also knitting another one that says "Daddy" on it. Wish me luck getting it done in the next few days!

Longest nap EVER!

Katy fell asleep at 11:15 today. I expected her to wake up around noon, since most of her naps are around an hour long. She didn't wake up until TWO FIFTEEN! She was asleep for 3 hours straight! I kept checking to make sure she was still breathing. Here she is as she began to stir around 2, but still slept a good fifteen minutes longer.


And here's the stocking so far. I still need to do the top, but I think the heel and toe look pretty screwed up. I think I must have done something wrong, but I followed the directions! Whatever. I'm not unraveling it.

Longwood Gardens

Yesterday was a long day, but a really fun one. We started out by going to the mall for a big sale, where we got some new sweaters at great prices. Katy enjoyed people-watching while we shopped.

Then in the afternoon, we joined Grammy, G-Pop, and Aunt Anna at Longwood Gardens, where they have an amazing consevatory of plants and flowers, and beautiful holiday lights on their outdoor gardens. It was REALLY cold, but we had a great time.

Morning at the Roxbury

Remember those guys in Night at the Roxbury who bobbed their heads to the side in time to the music? When it's time for Katy's nap (usually about 2.5 hours after she wakes up), she likes to be held in my arms with her head hanging over to the side, and she likes for me to bob her little head Roxbury-style. Once I start that, it's less than 3 minutes before she's out like a light.

Remember I wrote about how Katy loves to put stuff over her face? Well, this is a new game she plays with Daddy: He puts something over her face, and she pulls it off with all the dexterity of an adult. It's hilarious, because she is so clumsy still in many ways, but she can pull that blanky off her face like she's been doing it for decades. Here's an action pic. Notice her little hand, pulling that blanky off.


This is a few minutes later, after Daddy got up. She decided to play a little solitaire blanky game.


Later in the evening, she got a little fussy until Daddy remembered this tried and true baby-holding position. After an evening of chirping, yelling, fussing, and giggling, it was weird to see how quiet she became in this position, hanging onto Daddy's arms and smiling at Mommy.

Today we're supposed to be at the La Leche League meeting, but there's freezing rain and Katy and I feel safer staying home.

In case you were wondering, yes! I am still knitting! Here's my newest project - a Christmas stocking for my little sweetheart. I have finished the hardest part. The rest will be all red, and then I'm going to felt it. My first attempt at felting - this could be disastrous! I'll let you know how it turns out.

A new friend!

Okay, the pics that Jen sent me are just not interested in being uploaded, so we'll have to get on without them.

After breakfast and presents on Sunday morning, we left Uncle Brian and Aunt Shelly's to head down to "Aunt" Jen and "Uncle" John's to visit them and their baby Wyatt!!!! This was our first time meeting Wyatt, and it was wonderful.

Katy and Wyatt were fast friends. Katy reached out for his hand the moment we laid them down next to each other. The two mommies squealed with delight, as you can probably imagine. Wyatt was nice enough to let Katy have his holey ball, which she was in love with, and he's not really "into" yet.

Christmas presents!

Since we won't see Uncle Brian, Aunt Shelly, and cousin Nicolas over the holidays (due to various schedule conflicts), we exchanged gifts Sunday morning.

Aunt Shelly's birthday party was this weekend. I won't say how old she is this year, but it rhymes with "birdy". Anyway, a good time was had by all, but of course the only pictures we took were of the babes.

Katy's antics

So, here are some of Katy's current antics. One of her favorite things to do lately is to put things on her face (especially covering her eyes) and leave them there. Then she wiggles around happily, and when we remove the toy, we see that she is grinning. She does it with any soft toy that will not fall off. Here, she has placed her inchworm across her eyes (all by herself - I did not help!) and is playing with a plastic rattle.


Here she is again, this time with a cloth. She does this to herself, I swear I am not posing her for these pictures.


Next, we have a picture of Katy having rolled over. She still has her arm tucked under, but it's a step. She's doing it more and more often these days, and works on it diligently.


And this time, she rolled back over! Look how proud she is!
